I'm in love with this painting. I've seen it a few times, but I just haven't really been able to figure out what I could possibly say to express how much I love this piece of artwork. I'd say the Daily Deviation was definitely long overdue. <3
The use of vibrant colors here is so incredible. It can be so tricky to get it right -- avoiding that level of eye-blinding neon, but also avoiding desaturating the colors too far. I think you've used a really nice mix of color. Not only do you have a variety of saturation levels, but also a nice contrast of light and dark values. The slight hint of purple in the ears and the smoke really helps set off the wild color of the flames, it's a perfect addition.
My only critique is that the upper left hand corner is a little distracting. There's a very round spot of lighter grey, with a nearly perfect circle of darker grey inside it. My eye keeps popping over to that corner, and there isn't really anything there to look at. If I scroll down enough so that the circles are cropped out, the composition points perfectly to the main subject and keeps the eye focused on what's important. You've got really nice action lines going on in the main piece, and it's a shame to have something distract from that.
I love that you kept all three forms of media visible. I can point out the ballpoint pen, the watercolor strokes, and the digitally painted areas -- and it all works so well together! On first glance, I didn't think it was a mixed media project at all, it looks so uniform and complete. c:
Anyway, I wanted to say congratulations on your Daily Deviation! Your art is really and truly inspiring, and I hope you'll continue to share your gorgeous creations with us!
Ooh ! Thank you very much !! What a long comment ! I love receiving long comments like that ! :/D You're right, if the light grey corner had a sense for me when I draw it, I think it is a bad part of the drawing I should change. I dislike the way I did the big round tree, and think it could lighter, as the rest of the trees. I'm not a professional for composition, this drawing is a pure hazard and a big luck, for me I'll keep your advice in my mind, it's very interesting for my future drawings. I'm really touched by your adorable comment, thank you again !! Really!!
